Question 1-11B6

Element 1 (MROP)

What safety signal call word is spoken three times, followed by the station call letters spoken three times, to announce a storm warning, danger to navigation, or special aid to navigation?

Explanation
The call word "SECURITE" (pronounced say-cure-e-TAY) is the international radiotelephony safety signal. It is spoken three times to indicate that the transmitting station is about to send an important navigational or meteorological warning, such as a storm warning, a danger to navigation, or information about a special aid to navigation. This signal informs other stations of crucial information regarding safety, but it does not imply immediate danger to the transmitting vessel or person. "MAYDAY" is the distress signal, used when there is grave and imminent danger to a vessel or person and immediate assistance is required. "PAN PAN" is the urgency signal, used for very urgent messages concerning the safety of a vessel or person, but not requiring immediate assistance. "SAFETY" is not an internationally recognized call word for this specific type of broadcast.
